This proposal is for a Community and Cultural Center in downtown Los Angeles. Taking in the surrounding building uses, initial diagramming and schematic development is generated through an iterative and operative process of slicing, carving and holing to generate positive and negative geometry.
Different program elements can then be assigned, split and allocated based on brief requirements and fit within the generated geometries, such that they are mixed and placed to promote collaboration and cross-pollination between different program elements, their uses and subsequent users.
The facade of pre-fabricated sheet metal is parametrically derived to control the size and distribution of apertures based on controlling sight and natural daylight into the interior through the glass facade behind the metal panel.
